Position Summary
KIMEP University College of Social Science, Department of Media and Communications, invites applications for one faculty position (open rank). The position is a twelve-month (including vacation period) full-time academic appointment to begin on 15 August 2018 with the possibility of an earlier starting date on January 5, 2018. Responsibilities include teaching, research, scholarly activities, advising, field liaison and service. The department offers undergraduate and graduate programs and teaches professional and theoretical courses in Journalism, Public Relations, Advertising, Media Management and Communication.
We seek a talented teacher and innovative scholar or practitioner who is actively engaged in research or production, enthusiastic about teaching baccalaureate and master’s degree students and serving the University, local community and the profession. We are looking for a productive and cooperative colleague who will bring new perspectives to theory, research and practice in media and journalism.
Minimum Qualifications
Expertise is required in at least two of the following areas: Media Management, Public Relations, Advertising, Journalism, Media Production, New Media, or Communication Research. Familiarity with CIS countries or similar international experience is welcome. Applicants must have an earned doctorate in Media, Journalism, Communications, or another relevant field from an internationally-recognized, accredited university or a Master’s Degree or higher and appropriate professional qualifications. ABD’s will be considered who meet the position qualifications and include in their application materials a letter from the dissertation chair confirming defense date prior to the position’s start date. Candidates must have a record of scholarly or professional publications, including published research in refereed journals and/or books or professional publications on a range of platforms.

The College of Social Science has an accomplished faculty of 29 full-time and 10 part-time faculty and 4 dedicated administrative staff. The College includes the departments of Media and Communications, Public Administration, International Relations and Economics.

Compensation
Rank and salary are competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Compensation after-tax compares favorably with net salaries in western countries. Limited on-campus housing is available to rent. In addition to salary, a benefits package includes basic healthcare, reduced tuition rates for KIMEP courses, subsidy for children’s school tuition and relocation allowance. New faculty members are provided with a reduced teaching schedule during the first semester. Summer paid teaching is typically available.
