POSITION DESCRIPTION

 

Faculty Position (Open Rank) in International Relations or Regional Studies in Chinese study area

(effective on August 15, 2019)

 

Position Summary

KIMEP University College of Social Science, Department of International Relations & Regional Studies, invites applications for one faculty position (open rank). The position is a twelve-month (including vacation period) full-time academic appointment to begin on 15 August 2019. Responsibilities include teaching, research, scholarly activities, advising, field liaison and service. The department offers undergraduate and graduate programs and teaches academic and theoretic courses in International Relations, the Politics of Central and East Asia, Diplomatic History, Methodology, etc.

 

We seek a talented teacher and innovative scholar who is actively engaged in research, enthusiastic about teaching baccalaureate and master’s degree students and serving the University, local community and the profession. We are looking for a productive and cooperative colleague who will bring new perspectives to theory, research and practice in the field of International Relations and Politics.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Expertise is desired in at least two of the following areas: Chinese Domestic and Geo-Politics, Chinese Economic Policy, The Economy and Geo-Politics of East Asia, Central Asia, Political Economy. Familiarity with CIS countries or similar international experience is welcome. Applicants must have an earned doctorate in International Relations, Political Science, Regional Studies or another relevant field from an internationally-recognized, accredited university. ABD’s will be considered who meet the position qualifications and include in their application materials a letter from the dissertation chair confirming defense date prior to the position’s start date.

 

The College of Social Science

The College of Social Science has an accomplished faculty of 29 full-time and 10 part-time faculty and 4 dedicated administrative staff. The College includes the departments of Media and Communications, Public Administration, International Relations and Economics.

Compensation

Rank and salary are competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Compensation after-tax compares favorably with net salaries in western countries. Limited on-campus housing is available to rent. In addition to salary, a benefits package includes basic healthcare, reduced tuition rates for KIMEP courses,  and relocation allowance. New faculty members are provided with a reduced teaching schedule during the first semester. Summer paid teaching is typically available.

The salary will be subject to deduction of taxes (10%) as required by the Law of Kazakhstan
