Student Affairs Division, Student Learning Support Center is looking for internal and external candidates to the temporary (till the end of maternity leave of the main employee) vacancy:
Job Title: Student Learning Support Specialist
Division: Student Affairs
Position reports to: Associate Vice president of Student Affairs
Job Summary: The position of Student Learning Support Specialist was created for the purpose of developing of comprehensive advising system at the Student Learning Support Center.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
- Work with faculty and existing student services staff to identify best practices in higher education advising processes and integrate these into KIMEP operations;
- Perform the GE course advising processes, work with the Admission, Registrar, Departments and Language Center;
- Work with academic administration, deans and academic departments in developing, reviewing, and refining the advising program to meet the needs of students;
- Participate in the internal committees relating to advising and retention issues;
- Maintain student files and records; documents all pertinent student information;
- Interpret and explain the KIMEP policies and procedures
- Organize Orientation Programs and other events related to freshmen students and their parents;
- Check various forms for accuracy such as advising, transfer credits, course substitution, etc.; assist students in their completion;
- Update the GE course advising and counseling information on the web page on a timely manner;
- Organize a training program for student peer-advisors and supervise their activities on a daily basis;
- Provide information on class schedules, program requirements, etc. to parents of incoming KIMEP U students when required;
- Assist students with registration, provide guidance in course selection in keeping with the student's interests, values and abilities;
- Perform a recovery program for students at risk and with AP status;
- Introduce and perform mentorship program;
- Organize a parent program;
- Perform other duties as might be directed by the Associate Vice President of Student Affairs;
Minimum Qualifications:
A bachelor degree, familiarity with the North American credit unit model of higher education; a minimum 1 year experience in Higher Education, excellent communication abilities with diverse populations including staff, students, parents, faculty; proficiency in English; excellent IT and word-processing skills particularly; Microsoft Word, Excel and Access.
Preferred Qualifications:
A self-starter demonstrating initiative, creativity, and ability to think broadly but with an eye to details; knowledge of Russian and/or Kazakh.
