The KIMEP University announces a search for a new Dean of its School of Law.

Reporting directly to the University Vice President for Academic Affairs, the dean is the chief executive and academic officer of the School and the primary liaison with the University, playing a central role individually and as a group, in the university’s academic administration. He or she is centrally involved in issues including strategic planning, budget, curriculum, facilities and research. He or she is a key participant in external relations of the university including fundraising, alumni relations, economic development, and public relations.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Administers faculty, staff and students of college.
2. Approves: work curriculum and syllabuses for disciplines; catalog of electives; individual academic schedules of students.
3. Organizes and conducts professional orientation and hiring procedures for the School.
4. Supervises scheduling of classes, examinations, tests, and supervises their execution.
5. Monitors and regulates organization of academic process, academic workshops and professional internships.
6. Gives permission take and re-take term examinations early.
7. Ensures implementation of University-wide policies and regulations within the School.
8. Ensures the proper use and allocation of all resources - physical, information, human and financial, including delivery to plan within budget.
9. Contributes fully to the University's corporate planning and communications processes and lead the development of School Plans, including the setting of income generation targets.
10. Be responsible for the management of all staff in the School including, the maintenance of a safe and healthy working environment.
11. Chair the School of Law’s college committee and to upholds and promotes the University's mission, vision and values.
12. Assures the academic quality of academic processes and outputs (research, consultancy and teaching and learning), the maintenance of academic standards, and ensure a fair and appropriate service to students.
13. Act as an ambassador for the School and the University to appropriate employers and other bodies, policy makers and other stakeholders.
14. Operate as a member of the President’s Cabinet.
15. Undertake such duties as may be commensurate with the post as required from time to time by the VPAA or his proxy.
16. Organizes and implements innovative learning technologies, as well as the use of teaching aids.
17. Works to strengthen and develop material and technical facilities of the School.
18. Brings to the school’s faculty committee and academic council issues related to improving educational process as well as student training.

Key tasks

1. Develops a strategy for development of college.
2. Strengthens and develops external communications with employers and educational authorities.
3. Examines educational market and labor market for majors provided at college.
4. Supervises academic, educational and scientific work of college. Heads development and implementation of educational and vocational programs, curricula, academic course programs
5. Organizes development of scientific-methodological and academic-methodological support of academic process.
6. Hold faculty meetings at least 4 times a year.
7. Monitor staffing at departmental and college level
8. Ensure course planning and teaching allocations are made before teaching commences
9. Assess and  prioritise resource needs
10. Monitor all project work within college reporting as appropriate
11. Monitor and advise upon expenditure
12. Oversee supervision of lecturers and memoires/ dissertation supervisors

Teaching load: 1 course per year

Required Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should have doctorate degree in Law, J.D. from internationally-recognized, accredited university. Applicants should ideally have 5 (five) years of senior level administrative experience at an Educational institute. Dean would normally be expected to be at least an Associate Professor with substantial academic experience.
