Position Summary 

KIMEP University College of Humanities and Education invites applications for one faculty position in Cognitive Science. The position is a twelve-month (including vacation period) full-time academic appointment to begin on 16 August 2022 with possibility of extension. Responsibilities include teaching, research, scholarly activities, advising, and service. The new faculty will contribute to the undergraduate and graduate programs offered by the department, particularly to our BA in Cognitive Science.

 

We seek talented instructors and innovative scholars who are actively engaged in research and enthusiastic about teaching baccalaureate and master’s degree students and serving the University, local community and the profession. We are looking for faculty who can teach some of the following courses: Introduction to Natural Language Processing, Logic of Language, Introduction to Computational Linguistics, Corpus linguistics, Psycholinguistics: Language and Mind, Technology for Translation, Introduction to Formal Languages and Finite Automata, Text mining, Introduction to Machine Learning, Neural networks, Introduction to Artificial Intelligence, Pattern Recognition, and/or Human-Computer Interaction.

Preferred but not required qualifications:

ABD’s will be considered who meet the position qualifications and include in their application materials a letter from the dissertation chair confirming defense date prior to the position’s start date.

Compensation

Rank and salary are competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Compensation after ­tax compares favorably with net salaries in western countries.

Limited on campus housing is available to rent, or alternatively, help is available in finding off campus housing. In addition to salary, a benefit package includes basic healthcare insurance, reduced tuition rates for KIMEP courses, and subsidy for relocation allowance. New faculty members are provided with a reduced teaching schedule during the first semester. Summer paid teaching is typically available.

The salary will be subject to deduction of taxes (10% Personal Income tax in general) as required by the Law of Kazakhstan.
