POSITION DESCRIPTION - Faculty (open rank) in Law 

 

Summary 

KIMEP University School of Law invites applications for a faculty position (open rank). The position is a twelve-month (including summer vacation period), full-time academic appointment to begin no later than fall semester, 2023, but preferably sooner. 

Responsibilities include teaching, research, and service. The school offers undergraduate (LL.B and B.I.L.) and graduate (LL.M.) degree programs in domestic jurisprudence and international law. The standard teaching load per semester is 12 credits, which is generally 4 courses. 

We seek a talented teacher and innovative scholar who is enthusiastic about teaching baccalaureate and master’s level students, active in research, as well as engaged in academic, community and professional service. We are looking for a collegial individual who will bring new perspectives to the faculty.

 

Qualifications 

Those with expertise in commercial, energy, environmental, or intellectual property law are especially welcome to apply. 

Experience in the practice of law and a terminal degree (e.g., Ph.D., J.D., Dr.jur.) with teaching experience is preferred. 

Senior Lecturer: An LL.M. or Candidate of Sciences degree from a recognized accredited or attested university and at least three years of previous academic experience is required. 

Assistant Professor: A terminal degree from a recognized accredited or attested university, evidence of scholarly research, completion of a thesis or evidence of academic publications and at least three years of academic experience is required. 

Associate Professor: A terminal degree from a recognized accredited or attested university, at least four years of academic experience is required. In addition, a body of academic publications and evidence of scholarly and/or professional activities, typically in Law, is required.

Professor: A terminal degree from a recognized accredited or attested university, a minimum of eight years of post-terminal degree undergraduate and graduate teaching experience with at least three years of them at the graduate level are required. In addition, a large body of academic publications and evidence of substantial scholarly and/or professional activities, typically in Law or in administration of higher education are required. Experience in thesis supervision, as well as experience in curriculum/program planning and development, accreditation and/or academic administration may also be required.  

 

The School of Law

The School of Law has an accomplished faculty of 8 full-time, 1 emeritus and various part-time faculty, along with 4 administrative staff members, including the dean. Professional programs are provided at the bachelor’s and master’s levels, in accordance with the Bologna process.

Compensation

Rank and salary are competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Compensation after-tax compares favorably with net salaries in western countries. Limited on-campus housing is available to rent. In addition to salary, the benefits package includes basic healthcare, reduced tuition rates for KIMEP courses, and a relocation allowance. Summer paid teaching is typically available. 

Monthly gross salary will be subject to deduction of taxes (10% for resident foreigners) as is required by Kazakhstan law.
