Assistant Professor (Economics / International Relations and Regional Studies)

 

Position Summary:

1. To lead and manage the delivery of teaching and learning including oversight and management of related academic activities and academic administration.
2. To undertake research within the Democratic People's Republic of Korea Strategic Research Center (henceforth referred as DPRK Strategic Research Center) and publish to the required levels appropriate to either academically-qualified or professionally-qualified status.

 

Required Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should have PhD/Doctor of Science or Candidate of Science degrees in Economics or International Relations areas from internationally-recognized, accredited university. Applicants for Assistant Professor position ideally have 3 (three) years of educational and scientific work at an Educational institute in the area of specialisation and, for progression to this grade, 1 (one) year as a Senior Lecturer.

• Ability to represent the department or College effectively;
• Competence in English, including good report writing and data analysis skills;
• Ability to engage in personal research and to contribute to team-based research projects;
• A demonstrated interest in the Korean Conflict and/or North Korean denuclearization;
• Fluency in English;
• Commitment to KIMEP’s Mission, Values, Principles of Governance and Strategic priorities;
• Readiness for possible business trips.

 

Preferred Qualifications: Applicants with proficiency in the Korean language will be given extra consideration.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Undertake teaching and related activities as may be allocated by the Chair, Dean or Director as appropriate.
• Lead and manage programmes and modules, ensuring full compliance with quality requirements;
• Lead, manage and contribute to curriculum development;

• Lead, manage and support the learning process by preparing learning materials and marking student scripts according to marking schemes provided and subject to appropriate monitoring procedures.
• Provide mentoring and academic support for junior staff and students;
• Manage, supervise and invigilate examinations and other assessment duties as required by the Dean/Director under advice from the Faculty/Centre/NUR examinations office

• Undertake, lead and manage consultancy and/or knowledge transfer and/or continuing professional development;
• Participate in continuous professional development;
• Engage in research conducted at the DPRK Strategic Research Center and contribute to team-based research programs.
• Present literature reviews and research findings to colleagues.
• Write articles with the intent to publish in academic journals and newspapers.
• Carry out such related duties that may be allocated by the chair, Dean or Director as appropriate.

Compensation

Rank and salary are competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Compensation after-tax compares favorably with net salaries in western countries.
