POSITION DESCRIPTION
Faculty Positions (Open Rank) in Media and Journalism
(One faculty position effective August 2020)
Position Summary
KIMEP University College of Social Science, Department of Media and Communications, invites applications for one faculty position at the rank of Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor or Senior Lecturer. The position is a twelve-month (including vacation period) full-time academic appointment to begin August 2020. Responsibilities include teaching, research, scholarly activities, advising, field liaison and service. Faculty hired for this position will have the opportunity to teach in two programs (Bachelor of Journalism and Master of International Journalism). The department offers professional and scholarly courses in Journalism, Public Relations, Advertising, Media Management and Communication. For the appropriate candidate, there may be opportunity for teaching in other areas as well.
We seek a talented teacher and practitioner who is actively engaged in media production and enthusiastic about helping develop an innovative program to prepare students for the changing media environment and about serving the University, local communities and the profession. We specifically seek a faculty member able to teach digital production courses in at least two of the following: Layout and design; web production; video production; audio production; digital photography, multimedia, mapping, data analysis, graphics, or animation. The candidate’s application should clearly indicate experience teaching and/or working in these areas.
Minimum Qualifications
Expertise is required in at least two of the following areas: Journalism, Media Management, Public Relations, Advertising, New Media, or Communication Research. Ability to teach in a media production environment is a must. We seek someone who has expertise in two or more of the following: Layout and design for print or online environments; Video production; Audio production, Digital photography; Multimedia; Mapping; Data Analysis; Graphics, or Animation. Familiarity with CIS countries or similar international experience is welcome.
Applicants must have an earned doctorate in Media, Journalism, Communications, or another relevant field from an internationally-recognized, accredited university or a Master or Candidate of Sciences Degree or higher and equivalent professional qualifications. ABD’s will be considered who meet the position qualifications and include in their application materials a letter from the dissertation chair confirming defense date prior to the position start date. Candidates must have a record of professional publication and/or scholarship.
For Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Full Professor ranks:
Applicants must have an earned doctorate/PhD in Media, Journalism, Communications, or another relevant field from an internationally-recognized, accredited university and at 3-10 year teaching/research experience ( depends on the rank).
For Senior Lecturer and Lecturer ranks
Master degree in Media, Journalism, Communications or equivalent professional qualifications, at least 1-2 year teaching/research experience or/and good administrative experience.
ABD’s will be considered who meet the position qualifications and include in their application materials a letter from the dissertation chair confirming defense date prior to the position start date. Candidates must have a record of professional publication and/or scholarship.

Compensation
Rank and salary are competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Compensation after-tax compares favorably with net salaries in western countries. Limited on-campus housing is available to rent. In addition to salary, a benefits package includes basic healthcare, reduced tuition rates for KIMEP courses, subsidy for children’s school tuition and relocation allowance. New faculty members are provided with a reduced teaching schedule during the first semester. Summer paid teaching is typically available.
