Description

• KIMEP University invites applications for the position of Dean of the College of Social Sciences. The Dean reports to the Vice President for Academic Affairs and has an annual teaching responsibility of 3 credits. The Dean position is a full-time administrative appointment. The appointment will begin on January 5, 2027.

Duties and Responsibilities

• The College of Social Sciences has 24 full-time faculty members and includes the departments of Economics, Public Administration, International Relations, and Media and Communications.
• The University seeks an experienced educator and administrator who is highly motivated and able to provide leadership for the College and its departments in teaching, research, and service. The ideal candidate will be committed to KIMEP University’s mission and its leadership role in providing a North American-style, internationally oriented education.
• The Dean will be responsible for maintaining and strengthening the academic quality of existing programs, supporting faculty research and teaching, and advancing new initiatives related to the programs and mission of the College. The successful candidate should be able to work effectively across departments, support faculty and staff development, contribute to the student learning environment, and help position the College for continued growth and impact.

Qualifications

• Applicants must have earned a PhD from an accredited and recognized university in one of the specialty areas currently represented in the College or in a closely related field. Candidates should have at least five years of administrative experience, hold the rank of at least Associate Professor, and provide evidence of current and/or past scholarship. Candidates should have strong oral and written communication skills and be fluent in English.
• The successful candidate should also have experience successfully managing and supervising faculty and staff, working across departmental lines, and contributing to a positive and effective academic environment.

Compensation

• Rank and salary are competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Compensation after tax compares favorably with net salaries in many Western countries. Combined with Almaty’s relatively low cost of living, the salary is competitive in real terms.
• Limited on-campus housing is available to rent. In addition to salary, the benefits package includes basic healthcare, reduced tuition rates for KIMEP courses, and a relocation allowance. Salary is subject to a 10% income tax deduction.
